Estimating
Heights and Distances
I've
measured mine, now you measure yours!!
If you can remember your measurements it will save
you having to find a ruler or tape measure
when you want to measure things..

It's
a good idea to note the date when you
take your measurements and then measure
yourself again in six months time.
You're still growing, I'm not!!
Extended arms, from fingertip to fingertip, nearly equals
your height..
Pulse beats about 75 times a minute ~ a bit quicker than one second..
A pace is about 70 cm so about 140 paces is 100 metres ~
fast walking steps are shorter than slow ones..
When walking fast, you walk a kilometre in 10 minutes ~
or 6 km an hour..
Judge distance by sound.. In a thunderstorm, count the number of
seconds between the lightening and the thunder ~
sound travels 1 kilometre in 3 seconds..
Test these yourself..
At 50 metres, the mouth and eyes of a person can be clearly seen..
At 100 metres, eyes appear as dots..
At 200 metres, buttons & details of uniform can be seen..
At 300 metres, the face can be seen..
At 400 metres, the movement of legs can be seen..
At 500 metres, the colour of the uniform can be seen.
Get to know these measurements and
you won't have to stop and think!!
